About Josephine

Welcome to My Studio

Hello, I’m Josephine Nga pianist, teacher, and lifelong learner with a deep passion for sharing the joy of music.

I am naturally a calm and gentle person, and I believe learning should be both enjoyable and meaningful. My lessons are designed to be engaging, encouraging and interactive, creating a light hearted and comfortable environment where students feel at ease to express themselves. I value open communication in class, as I believe learning is a two-way journey.

My teaching places strong emphasis on building technique, developing aural awareness, and cultivating musical expression and listening skills — helping students grow into well-rounded and confident musicians.

Music Qualifications

My background in piano performance, teaching, and music psychology allows me to adapt each lesson to the individual — guiding young children with patience and creativity, supporting adult learners with flexibility, and helping aspiring performers grow with depth and refinement.

Musical Journey

I began playing the piano at a young age, and my love for music truly blossomed at 11 when my teacher praised my playing — a moment that inspired me to pursue the piano with dedication and purpose.

During my secondary school years, I was deeply immersed in music. I served as my school’s pianist and accompanist for chapel and choir sessions, participated in handbells and took Music for my GCE O Levels, achieving an A grade with a perfect score in the aural component.

My musical journey later expanded to the violin, drawn by its expressive and lyrical tone, which further deepened my appreciation for sound and musicality. In my tertiary years, I joined a strings ensemble and developed a love for performing, while also accompanying choirs and ballet classes.

These experiences shaped my appreciation for ensemble playing, collaboration, and the shared joy of making music — something I hope every student can experience, gaining confidence, expression, and a meaningful connection through music.

I am honoured to have studied piano under Ms Lim Tshui Fang, whose mentorship has been instrumental in shaping my musical development and artistic growth.

Work and Experience

Since 2000, I have been teaching piano to students of all ages — from young children to adults — guiding each one not only in learning how to play, but also in developing a genuine love for music. My aim is to inspire, support, and build confidence so that every student can discover their own musical voice.

With more than two decades of teaching experience, I work with students at every level:

  • Beginners taking their first steps at the piano
  • Intermediate pianists aiming for refinements and greater musical expression
  • Hobby learners discovering music at their own pace
  • Advanced students supported in reaching their full potential for exams, auditions, and recitals with confidence and musical maturity

I have guided students in achieving their individual goals — whether for enjoyment, examinations, or personal fulfilment.

Learning with Josephine

I believe every music student should not only learn to play well, but also develop the ability to appreciate and read music confidently.

Many students sigh over how challenging reading music can be — but it doesn’t have to be intimidating. With the right foundation and thoughtful guidance, anyone can learn to read and play music with ease.
